Job Skills / Requirements

JOB SUMMARY:  A Driver is responsible for transporting passengers and meals for Meals on Wheels to and from the Trager Family JCC and residential properties. Duties include assisting passengers on/off the vehicle, using a navigation system to map their route and delivering passengers to the correct addresses in a timely manner.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Transport passengers to and from destinations in a safe, efficient manner
  • Coordinate daily schedule with Program Director
  • Deliver meals to Meals on Wheels clients, ensure clients are well and answer the door
  • Notifying Program Director if client does not answer the door or phone  
  • Assist passengers on and off the vehicle
  • Arrive at destinations on schedule
  • Fulfill administrative needs, like post office and bank as needed
  • Research and plan for traffic, construction, and weather delays
  • Use navigation applications to determine the best route
  • Interact with passengers at all times
  • Ensure the vehicle is always fueled and ready for use
  • Carrying out vehicle maintenance checks
  • Notify supervisor of vehicle repairs or maintenance as needed
  • Returning vehicle to parking compound at the end of the day
  • Ensure vehicle is clear of snow and ice before driving
  • Coordinate with Program director in advance when unavailable to work as scheduled

Additional Information / Benefits

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES NECESSARY:

  • A valid driver’s license
  • 1- year driving experience
  • Clean driving record, background check and drug screening
  • Excellent navigation skills and proficiency in using navigation applications
  • Time management and organizational skills to keep track and stay on schedule
  • Exceptional communication skills and interpersonal skills to interact with passengers
  • Physical stamina and good upper body strength to assist passengers as needed

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Physical strength and ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds
  • Enter and exit vehicle by stepping down or up
  • Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time
  • Walk up and down stairs without difficulty
  • Crouch and squat for pre- and post-trip inspections
