The Jewish Community of Louisville (JCL) is the dynamic fusion of our Jewish Federation and Trager Family Jewish Community Center. JCL serves to enrich the quality of life for Jews in Louisville, in Israel, and around the world with a vision of inspiring meaningful lives, while transforming our Jewish future. The JCL brings the community together as one to develop responses to critical issues facing our community. We do this by providing leadership, financial support, services, facilities, and connections with people locally and across the globe. We are the convenor of Jewish life in Louisville and the eyes, ears, and voice for the Jewish community of Louisville. Seeking a CDO to help grow and strengthen our Louisville Jewish community which is energized by the recent opening of the new Trager Family JCC, a $44.5 million project. Excitement is palpable following a recent Brandeis University Community Study of Jewish Louisville which revealed a younger, more diverse, and larger Jewish demographic than previously thought. 
 
There is a great deal of pride working at the JCL in a new facility and a collaborative environment which encourages taking risks. Louisville is a fun and inviting Midwestern community with a spirited Southern warmth that boasts the world-famous Kentucky Derby and one-of-a-kind bourbon trail.

Job Skills / Requirements

The Chief Development Officer (CDO) is part of the organization’s executive leadership team and is responsible for leading all aspects of fundraising and financial resource development. The CDO leads a department responsible for raising close to $4 million each year from multiple income streams including, individuals, corporations and foundations. The resources are raised primarily through the following efforts, an Annual Campaign, a planned giving and endowment initiative, grants, events, special campaigns and through JCC fundraising endeavors. Success will be dependent on the CDO’s ability to develop and strengthen relationships between Jewish Federation of Louisville’s volunteer leaders, donors, stakeholders, and prospects. 

 
The ideal candidate embraces a donor centric approach to philanthropy and a proven record of successful fundraising and major gift development. The candidate must be skillful in donor prospecting, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship. The ideal candidate will have a clear understanding how fundraising connects to the larger success of the organization and be able to lead, and build, a talented development infrastructure and team. Strong leadership skills, a curiosity and passion for building new relationships and a positive outlook on the organization’s ability to inspire giving are all qualities the that JCL is looking for in a CDO. .
 
Responsibilities
 

*Provide a clear vision and lead the Jewish Federation of Louisville’s Annual Campaign & Legacy Giving through clear messaging and communication
*Develop and steward positive relationships with outside funding sources including foundations and corporations turning past $50-100k capital campaign gifts into additional future gifts 
*Develop and implement strategies to increase the funds raised for the Annual Campaign to over $2 million and secure new major gifts through outreach, relationship building, face-to-face solicitation, and event follow-up
* Oversee management of donor base, research trends, and develop strategies to reach potential donors
*Educate donors and prospects about the mission of Jewish Federation of Louisville 
*Develop giving opportunities for donors through Planned Giving and Endowments and capital and special giving
* Oversee management of fundraising events ensuring an opportunity for donors and prospects to connect with Jewish Federation of Louisville through social, networking and fundraising programs
* Direct planning and execution of planned giving priorities, strategies, recognition, operations, and marketing
*Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward planned gifts, Donor Advised Funds, and Agency, Restricted and Unrestricted Endowments
*Create and execute donor strategies to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward annual and planned gifts
Our ideal candidate for this integral role at the JCL meets the following criteria:

 
  • Excellent organizational, oral, and written communications skills
  • Self-motivated
  • Experience managing staff
  • Ability to work with committees and lay/professional relationships
  • Creative, detail oriented, original, and energetic 
  • Demonstrated experience with Jewish Federation of Louisville values and a clear commitment to them
  • Significant skills, knowledge, and demonstrated experience in fundraising, with at least 6-10 years of relevant experience
  • Demonstrated experience building relationships with high-capacity donors and cultivating/securing major gifts over $10,000
  • Ability to design, implement, and manage effective cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies at the individual, family, corporate and foundation levels.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community
  • Ability to set priorities and handle multiple projects
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team and be a team leader
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred
