Job Skills / Requirements
The WIC (Women, Infant, and Children) Nutritionist provides nutrition education for the WIC program by determining nutrition risks and certifying participants for the program. The WIC Nutritionist sets of goals for behavior change pertaining to nutrition and breastfeeding, prescribes supplemental foods, and develops and distributes nutrition education materials.
1.) Conduct nutrition assessments to determine program eligibility based on nutritional risk and according to State and Federal regulations.
2.) Assess diet, history, and identify risk factors for pregnant women, postpartum women, breastfeeding women, infants, and children up to age 5 years.
3.) Provide breastfeeding education when applicable and conduct breastfeeding promotion and support activities.
4.) Prescribe food package taking into consideration nutrition risks.
5.) Perform other related duties as assigned.
Certification Requirements (Any)
Additional Information / Benefits
Bachelor's Degree or higher in Nutrition or Dietetics
Registered Dietitian (RD) with the Commission on Dietetic Registration preferred.
Kentucky licensure required if RD.
CLC and/or IBCLC preferred. One year's experience in clinical or community nutrition preferred.
