Job Skills / Requirements

Position Summary:

Medical lab technicians are responsible for helping technologist and lab managers during lab test and research process samples. Perform test, and record and analyze results.


Primary Position Responsibilities:

  • Informing laboratory staff of any unexpected changes and development
  • Track data and reconcile the discrepancies in our computer system
  • Analyze data and monitor any anomalies
  • Process requisition for reference laboratory
  • Report any and all findings of anomalies to lab director
  • Aid laboratory personnel with specimen handling, processing, recording, and reporting of generated data to providers
  • Track pending list and communicate with providers of any/all pending test and stat results ASAP
  • Track inventory of chemical, reagent, consumable, and supplies
  • Maintain a clean laboratory and equipment


Required Experience/Skills:

  • Associates degree in medical laboratory technology (with ASCP certification)
  • Good understanding of laboratory information systems and automated laboratory equipment
  • Critical thinker with strong attention to detail
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Outstanding analytical abilities

  • Participate in continuing education to keep up with active certification
  • Train students and interns
  • Explain to patients how to care for themselves after specimen is drawn
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to call satellite sites for needed supplies in the event of a shortage
  • Recognize mistakes or other anomalies and correct appropriately
  • Problem solve with good interpersonal relationships
