Job Purpose

Performs repetitive operations on small standardized parts to close tolerances using basic machine shop equipment, including but not limited to drills, mills, lathes, presses, grinders, tumblers and sanders.

They will make certain their own assigned tasks are completed satisfactorily and to standards that are set for the team. Lean tools, methods and philosophy will be learned, utilized and embraced. The priorities of safety first, quality second and production third will be accepted and required.

Job Functions and Responsibilities  

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, & Worker Characteristics     

  1. Possess working knowledge of machine operations, materials and production standards
  2. Reads blueprints and understands measuring procedures
  3. Uses scales, calipers, micrometers, direct reading and fixed gauges to measure work
  4. Competent in basic math skills, i.e. shop arithmetic
  5. Has language skills sufficient to allow reading of written instructions and the ability to leave a written log for subsequent shifts or co-workers
  6. Must have working knowledge of machining operations, materials, production standards and measuring instruments
  7. Ability to be flexible and open-minded

Summary Education & Experience Required

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Vocational or high school education may be supplemented by on-the-job training plus two years of applied machine shop experience.

Working Conditions

  • Daily exposure to the noise levels, dust, odor and potential dangers of tools and equipment in a typical machine shop/assembly production area.
  • Must be able to perform repetitive operations
  • Eyesight sufficient to examine parts for cosmetic defects and use appropriate measuring equipment
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds 45 inches from the floor several times a day
  • Involves bending, reaching and standing for long periods of time
  • Ability to carry chips, parts and material back and forth in the building, place on shelves and lift into ship disposal areas
  • Must be willing to work shifts and overtime if required

Job Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Performs repetitive operations on small standardized parts to close tolerances using basic machine shop equipment, including but not limited to drills, mills, lathes, presses, grinders, tumblers and sanders.
  • Recognizes defective tooling, machine malfunctions and dimensional deviations. 
  • Makes minor machine set-ups and keeps fixtures clear of chips to insure proper positioning of work. 
  • Removes chips and performs simple maintenance procedures. 
  • Ensures product quality and takes appropriate action when non-conformances are identified. 

 Requirements include:

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Vocational or high school education may be supplemented by on the job training plus two years of applied machine shop experience.
  • Possess working knowledge of machine operations, materials and production standards.

Job Type: Full-time

Schedule/Hours:

  • Monday - Friday 6:00 am - 2:30 pm
