Assist in maintaining the quality of service provided by the Accounting Department; perform detailed accounting assignments of a complex nature; responsible for ensuring the integrity of the general ledger through analysis and review of related activity and other accounting records; and assists management in a variety of accounting assignments.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for facilitating month-end accounting close process through preparation of various accounting activities, including reconciling accounts, preparing journal vouchers, and identifying unusual activity.  Maintains Prepaid and Deferred accounts, Accrual accounts, and Investment accounts.  Month-end general ledger transactions include Credit Life & Disability entries, interest income on and fee charges from corresponding financial institutions, and dividends on stock holdings at the Federal Home Loan Bank and corporate accounts.  
  • Assist with preparation of the quarterly NCUA call reports.  Maintain Call report software and supporting documentation.  Identify efficiencies and improvements to the process on an ongoing basis.  Stay abreast of call report changes.
  • Responsible for daily reconciliation of ATM Settlement activity.  Communicate with branch staff as needed regarding outages and corrections.  Identify process improvements and recommend changes.
  • Serve as backup to Reconciliation Specialist for Volcorp account activity reconciliation.  Perform reconciliation when the Reconciliation Specialist is not in the office.
  • Serve as backup to the Chief Financial Officer for CECL calculations.  Reconcile all charge offs and recoveries, ensuring amounts are entered accurately and timely into the monthly ALLL calculation.
  • Responsible for the compilation of monthly statistical reports to go to management.
  • Assist with budget monitoring throughout the year.  
  • Assist with quarterly surprise branch audits.
  • Responsible for annual property tax reporting.
Experience: Three years to five years of similar or related experience preferred. 
 
Education: A college degree in finance or accounting.
 
Interpersonal Skills: A significant level of trust and diplomacy is required, in addition to normal courtesy and tact. Must be able to build and maintain strong working relationships with individuals and entities both inside and outside the organization. 
 
Other Skills: Position involves the ability to handle large volume of detail, interpret data, organize work, and instruct others; Must possess strong technical skills using Excel and Word, and capable of mastering systems and software applications used in accounting role. Education and experience with accounting procedures.  Initiative and ability to handle multiple assignments concurrently.  Attention to detail and ability to maintain accuracy.  Must be bondable.
