Job Skills / Requirements

Job Summary: 


Assists other members of the health care team in the delivery of patient care during the intra-operative period.  The major focus for the position is on preparation and handling of instrumentation and surgical equipment and assisting the surgeon during the surgical procedure. The tech will administer care and use of equipment applicable to the age and needs of the patient population served. The tech must be capable of the following: Knowledge of specific procedures or specialties, prioritizing, planning and problem solving, must be able to respond to hospital within 20 minutes of being notified while on call, knowledge of maintaining sterile field and importance of sterility, participate in Performance Improvement/SCIP/ Quality Indicators monitoring within the department, and understands the value of this monitoring, assists in decontamination/assembly/sterilization of instruments as needed, and interacts professionally with staff, patients, and family. Works collaboratively with all members of the surgical team to provide the best care and outcome for the patient.

 

Required Education, Skills, and/or Abilities:

  • Graduate of an accredited school for surgical technology or certification. 
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience is preferred.
  • Provides weekend call coverage
  • Ability to perform work that require frequent standing, sitting, bending, reaching, squatting, or lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Current BLS/CPR certification.

HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA OR EQUIVALENT
