Job Summary
The Surgical Scheduler is responsible for coordinating and scheduling surgical procedures in collaboration with patients, surgeons, and multiple departments. This role ensures efficient use of surgical resources, accurate documentation, and a seamless experience for patients through effective communication, attention to detail, and knowledge of surgical and insurance processes.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Schedule surgical procedures with patients, surgeons, and operating room staff.
- Verify availability of operating rooms and coordinate appropriate scheduling blocks.
- Communicate and collaborate with internal departments (e.g., Pre-Admission Testing, Anesthesia, Nursing) and external vendors as needed for surgical arrangements.
- Confirm patient insurance coverage, obtain required pre-authorizations, and document approvals in the system.
- Track and manage surgery cancellations, modifications, and rescheduling requests.
- Ensure all patients are scheduled for required pre-admission testing and evaluations prior to surgery.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date scheduling records in the electronic health record (EHR) system.
Essential Skills and Competencies:
- Excellent verbal and written communication, including professional phone etiquette.
- Strong organizational and time management abilities with the capacity to handle multiple priorities.
- High attention to detail and accuracy, particularly in data entry and patient scheduling.
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills to resolve scheduling conflicts and facilitate coordination.
- Proficiency in electronic health record systems (e.g., Epic, Cerner).
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills to interact effectively with patients, providers, and team members.
Qualifications:
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Knowledge of medical and surgical terminology.
- Basic understanding of healthcare scheduling practices.
- On-site position
Preferred:
- Previous experience in a surgical scheduling or medical office setting.
- Familiarity with insurance verification and authorization processes.
- Experience using EHR systems.

This is a Full-Time position 1st Shift, Monday - Friday: 8:00am - 4:30pm.
Travel is not required
