Job Summary
The Laboratory Clerk is responsible for providing administrative and clerical support to the hospital’s laboratory department. This role plays a vital part in ensuring the accurate processing, filing, and distribution of laboratory documentation and specimens, as well as assisting in maintaining efficient departmental operations. The Laboratory Clerk interacts with patients, clinical staff, and laboratory personnel to ensure timely and accurate communication.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Greet and register patients and visitors to the laboratory.
- Accurately enter patient demographics and test orders into the Laboratory Information System (LIS).
- Maintain and organize laboratory records, reports, and documentation in compliance with hospital policies and regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate specimen pickups and deliveries with internal departments and external couriers.
- Distribute and file laboratory results and ensure critical values are communicated appropriately.
- Answer phones, direct calls, and provide information or take messages for lab staff.
- Maintain office and laboratory supplies; submit supply requisitions as needed.
- Assist with inventory tracking and administrative support for quality control and regulatory audits.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient health information at all times.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the efficient operation of the laboratory.
Qualifications:
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Post-secondary coursework in healthcare administration, medical terminology, or laboratory sciences preferred.
- CPT certification strongly encouraged
Experience:
- Previous clerical experience in a healthcare or laboratory setting preferred.
- Experience with electronic medical records (EMR) or LIS systems a plus.
Skills & Abilities:
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Knowledge of medical terminology and basic understanding of laboratory processes preferred.

This is a Full-Time position 1st Shift, Monday - Friday: 8:30am - 5pm.
