Job Skills / Requirements

Job Summary/Purpose 

The Paramedic is a licensed healthcare professional responsible for delivering advanced life support (ALS) to patients in the pre-hospital environment. Working under the direction of KBEMS protocols and medical director, Paramedics assess, treat, and transport patients in a wide range of medical and traumatic emergencies with the highest level of clinical skill, judgment, and professionalism. 

 

Essential Key Job Responsibilities 

  • Respond rapidly to 911 calls and other emergency/non-emergency incidents. 
  • Conduct full patient assessments and initiate advanced treatment modalities. 
  • Perform life-saving procedures such as intubation, defibrillation, medication administration, EKG interpretation, and IV therapy. 
  • Manage critical care and trauma patients in coordination with EMTs, EMT-As, and other healthcare providers. 
  • Accurately document all patient care activities in accordance with legal and regulatory standards. 
  • Maintain communication with medical control and hospital personnel during transport. 
  • Ensure all equipment, ambulances, and medical supplies are operational and stocked. 
  • Engage in continuing education, quality assurance, and training activities. 



Requirements: 

  • Active KY AEMT or Paramedic license required.
  • Must be able to lift 150 lbs to a minimum of 36 in. height.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license with no traffic violations and EMS Driver’s Training.
  • Must be able to read, write, and comprehend medical terminology for the English language.
  • Critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to work under stress.
  • Works cooperatively, communicates effectively.
  • Follows oral and written instructions.
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS
  • HIV, Pediatric Head Trauma, Sexual Awareness Training, NIMS 100, 200, 700, 800, and Determination of Death.

Education Requirements (All)

Graduate of an approved EMS-TEI

Certification Requirements (All)

KY Paramedic License
BLS, ACLS, PALS, ICS 100/200/700/800, Pediatric Head Trauma, Sexual Awareness Training, Determination of Death, Driver's Training, and HIV Training
