Job Skills / Requirements
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Preschool Teacher is responsible for the planning and implementation of a developmentally appropriate early childhood education program for children ages 3–5, in alignment with Kentucky state regulations and licensing requirements. The teacher fosters a safe, nurturing, and stimulating classroom environment that supports social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development while preparing children for kindergarten readiness.
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop and implement daily lesson plans using a state-approved curriculum (e.g., Kentucky Early Childhood Standards).
- Provide a safe, structured, and nurturing environment that promotes learning and positive behavior.
- Observe and document child progress through assessments aligned with Kentucky's Early Childhood Standards and Kindergarten Readiness.
- Maintain compliance with all Kentucky Division of Regulated Child Care (DRCC) licensing standards (922 KAR 2:120 & 2:090), including child-staff ratios and supervision.
- Follow proper sanitation, hygiene, and health practices as outlined by the KY Cabinet for Health and Family Services.
- Attend mandatory staff training and maintain all required continuing education hours (15 clock hours annually per 922 KAR 2:090).
- Build positive relationships with families and maintain regular communication regarding children’s development.
- Ensure accurate completion of daily records including attendance, incident reports, and meal counts.
- Participate in program quality improvement initiatives such as Kentucky All STARS.
- Report suspected child abuse or neglect per mandatory reporting laws.
- Assist with meal/snack service and cleaning routines as necessary.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education & Certification:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Must have one of the following:
- Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential,
- An associate’s degree in early childhood education or a related field,
- Pediatric First Aid and CPR Certification (required within 90 days of hire).
- 6-Hour Orientation training completed prior to working with children.
Experience:
- Knowledge of child development, early learning standards, and positive guidance strategies.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Understanding of Kentucky Early Childhood Standards and developmental milestones.
- Strong communication, observation, and record-keeping skills.
- Ability to adapt to individual learning styles and needs.
- Compassionate, dependable, and professional demeanor.
- Physical ability to actively engage with children, lift up to 40 lbs., and work at child’s level (bending, kneeling, sitting on the floor).

This is a Full-Time position Monday - Friday; 8a - 4:30p.
Travel is not required
