We provide help and create hope for the poor and vulnerable through a wide range of programs, assisting clients of all races, backgrounds and beliefs. Our service area includes 24 counties throughout Central Kentucky.

GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Caseworker is a member within Migration and Refugee Services. The Caseworker will carry out the central agency function of providing case management services to refugees that have recently arrived . 
The Caseworker will participate in pre-arrival coordination and the airport reception of his/her assigned clients. During clients’ first 90 days, the Caseworker will be responsible for ensuring the delivery of required core services, including but not limited to, Social Security cards and SNAP (Food Stamps) benefits; Medicaid enrollment, medical screenings and follow-up appointments; and enrollment in cash assistance, ESL and employment programs. 
The Caseworker will be responsible for the intake and orientation of new clients and ongoing explanation of program objectives and compliance requirements. Thorough documentation of services, and entering of case information and case notes in client case files and separate electronic databases maintained by the Kentucky Office for Refugees and United States Catholic of Conference Bishops (USCCB) is mandatory.  The Caseworker will periodically need to generate narrative and quantitative reports for funders.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND TASKS: 

  1. Welcomes arriving refugees at the airport and provides essential post-arrival support through the first 90 days (Provides or secures food, clothing, cash, transportation for needed services, etc.) and ensures and assists the provision of mandated core services including a health department screening, applying for social security cards, public benefits, medical care, school enrollment, employment, and all other required services.
  2. Provides a comprehensive orientation and intake to newly arriving refugees that assesses client needs and goals, communicates expectations of the resettlement process and establishes a strong, supportive relationship, and educate clients throughout the R&P period on how to access needed services so that refugees can attain and maintain self-sufficiency once completing MRS programs
  3. Represent agency and clients with community service providers and other refugee resettlement stakeholders while assisting clients in applying for Social Security cards, SNAP (Food Stamps), K-TAP (TANF), Medicaid, WIC, SSI or SSI-Disability 
  4. Keep track of all assigned cases by maintaining detailed case files and case notes of each individual case, preparing client reports within required deadlines, and developing and documenting a budget for each case in his/her caseload with expenditures, client signatures, and dates and ensuring backup documentation/receipts are in file.
  5. All other duties as assigned 
 
WORKING CONDITIONS:
This work is performed in an office setting with moderate noise due to computers, printers, and people moving about and out in the community.
 
 
EFFORT:
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, and sit for extended periods of time
  • Ability to lift/move up to 25 lbs. and assist regularly with moving furniture, clothing, and household furnishings
  • Specific vision abilities include close and distant vision
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Ability to travel frequently within the community
  • Ability to accurately examine and analyze information

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:  
Associates degree preferred or studies leading toward a degree
At least three years of work experience preferably with refugees

SPECIALIZED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a multi-cultural environment
  • Ability to speak languages commonly spoken by current refugee populations preferred
  • Knowledge of different programs and Grants within Migration and Refugee Services
  • Must be able to represent Catholic Charities in a positive manner in dress and presentation when meeting community members and demonstrate good networking skills
  • Must have strong writing skills and the ability to read, analyze, and interpret policies, rules, and regulations to ensure programmatic and fiscal compliance
  • Must have valid driver’s license, an acceptable driving record, and reliable personal transportation
  • Able to deal with frequent changes, delays, and unexpected events
  • Able to manage competing demands and use time effectively
  • Must be able to communicate well verbally and in writing with colleagues, clients, other community personnel, and service providers
  • Must be able to work under pressure and handle stressful situations
  • Must be able to work flexible hours including some nights and weekends as needed
  • Must be proficient in PC skills including Microsoft Office and Outlook
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality of information
  • Must demonstrate self-confidence, initiative, flexibility, and a high degree of professionalism
