Job Description
Floor Technician

Job Title:   Floor Technician (full-time)
Reports To:    Director of Operations
Rate Type:     Hourly (H)

POSITION SUMMARY:
Provide and maintain a clean and sanitary environment by ensuring all floor surfaces are maintained in a manner that supports ServiceMaster facility Maintenance vision and mission.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:  Other duties may be assigned.
Be able to follow instructions and work with minimal supervision.
Follow established safety precautions.
Perform proper techniques of floor care and preparation of areas to be cleaned, buffed, stripped or finished as well as carpet cleaning
Must be able to operate and maintain all floor cleaning/finishing equipment to include but not limited to floor buffer/burnishers, water extraction machine, and carpet cleaning equipment
Follow established safety precautions for cleaning and maintaining all areas of the facilities
Perform other duties as assigned by the Project Manager/ Care Lead Supervisor or the Director of Operations

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS:
Other cleaning or special assignments as it relates to the needs of the company.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This job has no supervisory responsibilities. (Supervisor responsibility may be appointed by Project Manager or Director of Operations).

STATUS AND SCOPE:  This is the reporting relationships, special skills and abilities required to perform essential job functions.

The position reports to the Floor Care Lead Supervisor/Project Manager.  The position supports the operations of the facility that is managed by SMFM clients.  It requires knowledge of cleaning equipment, floor maintenance equipment, alarm/security systems and the ability to effectively communicate with supervisors and client/tenant staff.

Education and/or Experience
Less than high school education; or up to one-month related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
 
 
 
 
Language Skills
Be able to read and write the English language. Have the ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write simple correspondence, Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
 
Other Skills and Abilities
Prior job related experience is preferred but not required.  Be 18 years or older.


USE OF EQUIPMENT:  The following equipment may be used in this position.  The employee must demonstrate and ability to operate or learn the use of each item:
  • light vacuum (upright or backpack)
  • heavy vacuum
  • buffing machine (side-to-side)
  • burnisher
  • automatic scrubber
  • hand truck (dolley)
  • pressure washer
  • carpet cleaning machines (scrubbers and extractors)
  • wet vac
  • brooms and mops
  • Computer with Microsoft Office products and internet applications
 

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: Travel to business related functions.  The person in this position could also be asked to move from one location to another during the scheduled shift.

 

There will typically be less than 20% out of town travel for persons in this position.   However, frequent in-town travel from one site to another is required.

 

LIFTING REQUIREMENTS:  The typical lifting requirements of this position.

 

Lifting 75 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 50 pounds.  This is considered a medium lifting required position.
