Job Skills / Requirements

Individual needed to provide crisis intervention, support, liaison, and referral assistance to crime victims and survivors of police emergencies. Duties include the following: acting as liaison for crime victims and their families; preparing victims for their involvement with the criminal justice system; explaining victim's rights, transports and accompanies victims to court proceedings, assists victims in completing petitions for court orders; attending court to provide information to judges on behalf of victims; compiling and analyzing data and reviewing reports and correspondence related to the Victim Assistance Program; conducting research to identify emerging needs, trends, and services related to victim assistance; assisting victims in filing compensation claims; and documenting and managing case files. 

The position requires a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, social work, psychology or a related field or four years victim assistance, law enforcement, crisis intervention or related employment experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as listed above. Individual selected will be expected to provide services after hours and at various locations (crime scenes, hospitals, homes, shelters) as the need arises.  This includes being available during nights, weekends, and holidays to support operational needs.  When possible, the work week will be adjusted to provide more balance in the work schedule when call back is necessary.  

The successful candidate must also have excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as sound organizational and decision-making skill.  Candidates are also expected to possess proven computer skills and proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel, Word, and Outlook.
