Summary: 

The FAA Security Officer position at the FAA post is responsible for providing security and to safeguard FAA employees, facilities, Government property and assets from loss, theft, damage, unauthorized use, criminal acts, espionage, sabotage and terrorism. FAA Security Officers will conduct visitor and vehicle control and screening, monitor and respond to facility cameras and alarms from intrusion detection systems,perform magnetometer and X-Ray screening, and other duties as outlined in the Statement of Work. Must possess a good working knowledge of security operations, safety practices in a business environment and enforcement procedures.  

Essential Tasks (minimum requirements to be performed with or without reasonable accommodation): 

  1. Access Control-Provide courteous, timely service while maintaining control of all personnel and vehicles entering the facility in accordance with the local Facility Security Plan.
  2. Screening-Check hand carried items in possession of visitors, operate metal detectors/magnetometers to inspect visitors and deliveries, operate x-ray machine to inspect visitors’ packages, equipment and hand-carried articles, conduct vehicle inspections, and conduct broader or more detailed screening as directed by the ATR in response to the security posture. 
  3. Visitor Processing- Follow proper site procedures for issuing visitor badges to visitors.
  4.  roving patrols of the facility perimeter to detect unauthorized entry or other
    suspicious activities, inspect physical security safeguards, inspect facilities for hazards, ensure that all security equipment is activated and operating
    properly, closing and securing all open windows or doors, manually open and close heavy gates and doors, patrol locations in areas which are potentially hazardous to the public, observe the environment for suspicious vehicles or persons on Federal property, review maps, floor plans, diagrams to be familiar with facility and property boundaries. 
  5. Response-evacuate individuals from dangerous and/or life threatening situations, guide and assist First Responders, administer cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR), administer/deploy automatic external defibrillator (AED), assess the medical condition of injured individuals, perform basic first aid in response to emergencies. 
  6. Control Operations-Provide written or verbal situation reports regarding security-related information (e.g. accidents, bomb threats, unlawful acts, characteristics of individuals). 
  7. Inspections-buildings and grounds, vehicles, execute colors, traffic, parking and pedestrian control.
  8. Escort Services-May have to escort deliveries to the loading dock. 
  9. Gate/Building Openings-must open/close gate(s) and building(s) within the time parameters as specified by the Facility Post Orders. 
  10. Key/Access Control Cards/Combination Control-Must receive, secure, issue and account for all keys/access cards or combinations issued to them for access to buildings, offices, equipment, gates, etc. 
  11. Screening of Vehicles, Visitors and Mail-Deny entry of unauthorized person(s), property or vehicles to area(s) defined in the Facility Post Orders.
  12. Temporary Badges-Issuance of temporary passes and temporary badges to Government employees, authorized visitors, issue appropriate identification badges to authorized visitors, and record required. 
  13. Private Property-follow procedures for handling of private property (audio, video recording devices, cameras, etc.) prohibited on the facility unless authorized by the FM. 
  14. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Position Requirements:

  • Must meet all federal, state, and local requirements for Security Officers. 
  • Required to have proof of experience (must meet one (1) or more of the following requirements and provide proof):
  1. Three (3) years of security experience within the past five (5) years OR
  2. Associate Degree in related field, plus one (1) year of experience OR
  3. Three (3) years of military experience (Active, Reserve, or National Guard) OR
  4. Successful completion of a State certified Police Officer’s Standard Training (POST) certification course OR
  5. Possess a reasonable combination of one (1) through three (3)
  • Mustbeat least 21 years of age and possess a valid driver’s license. 
  • Possess or able to successfully obtain all FAA Training Requirements, and to remain in compliance of their training. 
  • Successfully pass all Personnel and Industrial Security Requirements, such as Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) fingerprint check and Office of Personnel Management National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI), to be granted an interim suitability approval. Be able to obtain an FAA Personal Identity Verification
    card (PIV). 
  • Hold and maintain Active Armed New York Security Guard status. 
  • Maintain poise and self-control under stress.
  • Speak English fluently and is able to read and understand written English in reports, orders, guidelines, and instructions.
  • Ability to understand and follow standard operating procedures. 
  • Input and retrieve data using computerized security system and read, understand, and apply printed instructions, rules, detailed orders, and training materials. 
  • Ability to write official reports in English that are grammatically correct and technically accurate.
  • Possess a high school diploma or General Education Development (GED) Certificate from a duly accredited institution. 
  • Abilityto make independent and good judgment decisions utilizing the FAA Security Officer Manual and ADC LTD NM and customer policy and procedures. 
    • Abilityto handle sensitive and confidential information. 

Common Tasks

  1. Provide direction or information to tenants or visitors.
  2. Advise persons relative to problems, situations, etc.
  3. Explain rules, regulations, and procedures to individuals.
  4. Conduct on-the-spot interviews of witnesses to obtain description of possible suspects or description of events and persons surrounding security incidents for reporting to first responders and/or Government authorities.
  5. Collect information about stolen or missing property or suspicious activities to aid investigations.
  6. Advise the Site Supervisor or the duty facility manager of potentially hazardous conditions.
  7. Raise and lower the flag in a respectful and appropriate manner.
  8. Locate and review documents and information (e.g., logs, lists).
  9. Read memos and other written material issued by the ATR to maintain knowledge.
  10. Take detailed field notes so reports and/or log entries can be completed.
  11. Provide backup assistance to other CSOs.
  12. Recognize and report unsolicited contacts (telephone, in person, and by mail) to determine suspected criminal and/or suspicious activity that poses a potential threat to the organization's facilities or personnel.
  13. Interview and assess suspicious persons.
  14. Draw and discharge weapon to protect self or third party on FAA property.
  15. Participate in firearms training and demonstrate proficiencies.
  16. Care for and maintain firearms.
  17. Participate in training in the use of chemical agents, restraining devices, and batons for use in emergency situations.
  18. Use OC (Oleoresin Capsicum) chemical in gel or foam spray pattern only to temporarily incapacitate a violent individual in accordance with state and local laws.
  19. Use baton as a defensive weapon or to temporarily disable a violent individual.
  20. Inventory physical objects (e.g., keys, keycards, vehicles, visitor badges) and log
  21. Testify in court regarding criminal activity or other incidents.
  22. Participate in work-related training.
  23. Report misconduct of other Contract Security Officers.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:  

The physical demands described here and below are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to stand, talk and hear. 

  • Frequentand prolonged walking, standing, sitting,and stooping, up to twelve (12) hours per day, either indoors or outdoors, during daytime or nighttime. Outdoor posts may require an individual to withstand extreme heat, humidity,cold, or severe weather(e.g., snow, sleet, rain, hail, wind). 
  • Frequent contact with general public, law enforcement, and dispatch center, requiring an ability to speak clearly and distinctly and remain calm in stressful situations (e.g., confrontations with angry, distraught, disturbed, or violent persons). 
  • Abilit yto remain on post up to four (4) consecutive hours without sitting, eating, or relieving bladder or bowels. 
  • Abilityto remain alert for up to twelve (12) hours, with ability to mentally and physically react quickly to a variety of unexpected and dangerous situations. Use of senses (sight,hearing, smell, touch) is necessary to discern unusual or dangerous situations. 
  • Ability to usepost security equipment (metal detectors, X-rays, CCTV), ability to use handcuffs, baton, and firearm at any time while on duty. 
  • Ability to read post assignments, writes reports, and responds to both routine and emergency dispatches or orders. 
  • Abilityto subdue violent or potentially violent or disturbed individuals, or intervene in a crisis (e.g., provide emergency First Aid or resuscitation while waiting for arrival of paramedics or other emergency personnel). 
  • Occasional running, sprinting, lifting heavy weights,moving heavy objects, climbing stairs (e.g., in responding to emergencies, ensuring timely and complete facility evacuations, giving pursuit, etc.). 
  • Evening and Weekend Hours required.  

Security Clearance: 

Position requires a security clearance.
