Position Summary:  
Develop design drawings and related specifications for standard engineering applications involving electronic systems for data and voice communications requirements, telemetering devices, and related communications equipment.  Perform independent design and system studies on specific projects under the direction of engineering staff.  Support and assist engineers in the completion of communications project design and administration, data collection, and documentation.  Perform other duties as required.  
 

Tasks, Duties and Responsibilities:
•  Prepare and analyze engineering drawings, specifications and system data to determine design factors on specific projects requiring communications related equipment including but not limited to:

·         Digital microwave radio systems

·         VOIP telephone systems

·         Mobile radio systems

·         Fiber optic communications equipment

·         Digital multiplexing circuit equipment

·         IP based networking infrastructure

·         Landline telephony circuits

·         SCADA remote terminal units

·         Intelligent electronic devices (IED) and support equipment

·         Security systems

·         Video systems

·         General electronic miscellaneous systems

 

•  Perform the design of engineering projects under the general supervision of engineers using CAD drafting techniques.

•  Develop and compile all detailed drawings, cost estimates, and material lists to prepare work orders for communications related jobs.

•  Maintain proficiency at Brazos communications related design software, accounting software, and general windows related software for work related tasks.

•  Work closely with other engineering assistants and may give specific job-related direction.

•  Process data necessary to develop engineering planning reports and design studies.

•  Participate and assist in data collection, field surveying and planning of systems facilities for the cooperative or member cooperatives.

•  Calculate and organize information for system studies and provides technical consultation for special projects.

•  Maintain relationships with external contractors, consultants and member cooperative personnel to coordinate job related activity.

•  Perform field related investigations, inspections, or monitoring.

•  Perform special communications related assignments as required.

•  Work closely with communications technicians on completion of design installations and testing.  

Education and Experience Requirements:
•  Associate degree in electronics, telecommunications, or computer networking related field from a recognized vocational/technical school. 

•  Minimum of four (4) years field related experience as an engineering technician or in a comparable position
