Position Summary:  
Brazos Electric is seeking a Substation Mechanical Technician for its Waco technician team. The successful candidate will have foundational knowledge of power substation equipment, fundamentals of electrical theory, experience working with and around medium and high-voltage, and possess the ability to establish and maintain productive working relationships with other employees and member cooperative. This role supports the construction of new power substations, as well as, modifications and upgrades of existing substations. 
 
Tasks, Duties and Responsibilities:
Inspect, repair and perform preventive maintenance on transformers, oil and gas circuit breakers, reclosers, regulators, and other substation equipment. Maintain appropriate records for maintenance and repairs.
*  Sample, test, and evaluate insulating oil and other media and maintain appropriate records including dielectric strength, PCB and acid content. Maintain records and        files of test results.    
*  Assist in installation and preparation of oil and gas filled power equipment for service, pulling wire, and Doble Testing.  
*  Provide information from the field regarding PCB records, testing, labeling and clean-up of all oil spills.  Maintain all necessary records regarding hazardous and controlled material for internal environmental personnel. 
*  Respond to outage situations to assist in restoring power.
*  Perform other duties as required.

Education and Experience Requirements:
High School Diploma or equivalent certificate.
*  Minimum of two (2) years electric utility experience with 69kv, 138kv and/or 345kv. This experience is to include one (1) year of substation experience such as  maintenance, construction, or repair. 
*  Completion of an electrical certification program is a plus.
*  Must possess a Commercial Driver’s license.  

Physical and Environmental Requirements: 
Requires working outside in varying environmental and weather conditions and temperature extremes.  Requires sometimes working at night.  Requires lifting, pushing, pulling or carrying of weights equal to 100 pounds or less.  Requires pushing, pulling and reaching above the shoulders.  Requires kneeling, crawling, bending or twisting while lifting arms above shoulders, and stooping for extended periods of time, in order to accomplish duties, while grasping, pulling or pushing objects, or manipulating tools.  Requires walking and/or standing for extended periods of times.  Requires sitting for extended periods of time while riding in a motor vehicle.  Requires wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).  Requires manual and detailed hand work using both hands.  Also may require repetitive manual tasks.  Requires working overtime and traveling at times with short notice. Must be available for “case of trouble” response any time, including nights and weekends.  Must live within a 30 minute response time to BEPC Office in Waco, TX for emergency response. Must be able to work in confined spaces.  Requires hearing within normal range, hearing aids are permitted.  Requires vision within normal range, corrective lens are permitted.
