Job Purpose

Under general supervision, directs the activities of team members in the assembly department.

Schedules production and assigns personnel in the subassembly and assembly of articulators, face bows and related products.  Trains employees assigned to the area in the work assignment according to quality procedures.  Promotes safety procedures and maintains good housekeeping. 

Initiates, cooperates or participates fully as appropriate in using the team approach in solving problems and suggesting improvements that enables Whip Mix to live up to its mission and values.

Responsible for ensuring company procedures are followed in performing all job functions and responsibilities.

 

Job Functions and Responsibilities      

 

1.

 

Set priorities and goals for assembly department and assign team member tasks utilizing the principals of Lean Manufacturing to reduce waste and non-value added activity to meet production demands.    (Essential)

Trains new employees and cross trains other employees in various tasks in department including ISO standard operating procedures and computer manufacturing operations.  Monitors work performance.    (Essential)

Ensures equipment needed for production is safe and operational, reports any mechanical problems to manager or maintenance department.   Provides guidance for assuring a safe work environment and safe products.    (Essential)

Access computer data to input and access information for manufacturing.    (Essential)

Knowledge of all phases of assembly, calibration, packaging and repairs of all articulator and face bows and related subassemblies or parts.  Maintains records related to daily production.  Maintains production and serial number records.  Assemble product according to established procedures.  Focus on efficiency and quality.  Responsible for following quality system procedures.  Assists in procedure development when required.  Ensures product quality and takes appropriate action when non-conformances are identified.  Perform all job responsibilities in a safe manner.  Practice good housekeeping.       (Essential)

Job Requirements

Good planning skills needed to set production priorities based upon departmental demands.

Good communication skills to adequately receive and relay information regarding production requirements, company procedures and ISO procedures and in counseling and evaluating theTeam.

Good team building skills necessary to support team members in various assembly procedures.

Manual and finger dexterity sufficient to operate small hand tools in the assembly and calibration of articulator and related parts.

Ability to read micrometer, video measuring equipment, blue prints and job procedures.  Ability to lift 50# of boxed articulators.

Mechanical aptitude and problem solving skills for repairing and calibrating both returned and new assemblies. 

Strong attention to detail.

Ability to train and instruct departmental personnel in proper, safe assembly procedures.

Computer skills required to efficiently use production management and computer programs including spreadsheet and word processing programs.

Summary Education & Experience Required

High school diploma or GED; college helpful, but not required. Lean manufacturing experience. Minimum of two years as a Whip Mix Senior Assembler or equivalent experience.

Working Conditions

Daily exposure to the potential hazards of working with equipment such as drill press and air presses.
