Overview

The national offices of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), based in Louisville, Kentucky, serve and work with mid-councils, congregations, and partner organizations to carry forth the mission of Jesus Christ in the  World.  The work at the Presbyterian Center is carried out by approximately 400 staff members in several national entities: Office of the General Assembly, Presbyterian Investment and Loan, Presbyterian Mission Agency, Presbyterian Publishing Corporation, Presbyterian Women and the Administrative Services Group.

Position Purpose: Under the supervision of the Sr. Director of Mission Communications, the Social Media Strategist creates and implements a strategic communications plan for social media to raise awareness of the Presbyterian Mission Agency (PMA) and its work.

Job Skills / Requirements

  1. Annually developing a strategic social media communications plan for PMA.
  2. To better serve our churches and presbyteries, this individual represents the PC(USA) national office leading workshops on social media across the country.
  3. Serves as an adviser for 9,000 churches on social media strategy and best practices (when requested).
  4. Plays a key role in crisis communications teams in developing and distributing urgent messages via social media.
  5. This person updates and maintains the national PC(USA) social media channels daily.
  6. Develops, implements, and measures national social media campaigns to increase awareness and/or funding.
  7. Creates and manages social media advertisements for national campaigns and events.
  8. Coordinates live social media coverage for national conferences and events.
  9. Positions the PC(USA) to engage in relevant social media practices (that are constantly changing in the industry) by researching and staying up to date with the latest social media and digital marketing trends on a weekly basis.
  10. Develops and maintains a PC(USA) social media editorial calendar in collaboration with all 6 agencies of the Church.
  11. Analyzes social media performance and interpret analytics into an action plan.

Essential Position Requirements:

Education

·  Bachelor's degree, preferably in marketing, public relations, communications, or related field.

Experience

·        Minimum 3 years of experience in social media strategy, story development.

Required Skills

·        Demonstrated experience in social media strategy.

·        Experience with native and third-party social media management and analytic platforms, such as Hootsuite or Sprout Social.

·        Demonstrated expertise in social media analytics and ability to generate reports for lay people.

·        Knowledge of social media policies and terms of service for all major platforms (Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

·        Strong attention to detail and ability to self-start and manage own projects.

·        Proven success in developing and leading social media campaigns.

·        Strong strategic communication and presentation skills.

·        Customer service skills, providing a timely and professional response to online comments.

·        Familiarity or strong desire to learn about the Presbyterian Church, its ethos, and polity.

·        Requires the ability to work evening/weekend hours on occasion and to support events/programs.

 

Helpful Skills

·        Knowledge of social media analytics and interpretation

·        Fluency in languages other than English are encouraged to apply
