Overview


With national offices in Louisville, Kentucky, the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) focuses on the national and international mission work of the church. It serves and works with congregations, presbyteries, and synods as the central provider of resources that enable individuals, congregations, and governing bodies to carry forth the mission of Jesus Christ in the world. The work at the Presbyterian Center is carried out by approximately 275 staff members who provide overall support for the mission of the church.

Position Purpose:
Manages educational lending programs and debt assistance programs and provides grant administration services to all offices in Theology, Formation, and Evangelism. 

Job Skills / Requirements

  1. Develops, implements, and supervises educational loan, debt assistance programs, and collection for Presbyterian Mission Agency.
  2. Coordinates education and counseling services to promote managing educational debt for teaching elders, church professionals, and church members, working with the Board of Pensions and qualified vendors.
  3. Promotes healthy ministry, leadership, and retention of church personnel initiatives, by connecting to mid-councils, church corporations, and related institutions, advocating for teaching elders and church workers burdened with educational debt.
  4. Evaluates applicants and applications in all programs assigned to Financial Aid for Service for award and funding determinations, and works with the Coordinator to develop and implement strategies to make the best use of restricted funding.
  5. Grant administrator for programs assigned by the Coordinator for Financial Aid for Services. Responsible administration of aid in assigned programs.

Education:

MA/MS, or a combination of education and experience.

Experience:

Five years of experience in student aid administration

Essential Position Requirements:

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; must be able to communicate adverse outcomes with compassion, sensitivity, and clarity.
  • Data Analysis for aid administration and mission priorities; must be able to identify critical data points related to objectives and seek data to resource mission priorities.
  • Work flow administration; must be adept at organizing work, developing deficiency analysis tools, interventions for incomplete applicants, and checklists organized around decision trees.
  • Networking to build relationships with financial aid professionals, mid-councils, and staff in the church corporations.

Required Competencies:

  • Competency in Word, Excel, and Access.

  • Grant administration, financial management, broad knowledge of student aid administration and higher education processes relating to student aid and educational lending.

  • In depth understanding of student loan repayment options.

  • Broad knowledge of Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) constituencies and institutions served with particular emphasis on polity, 19-21st century Presbyterian church structures, and preparation for ministry.

  • Must be able to read legal documents, provide analysis, and seek advice of counsel where appropriate.

  • Specialized knowledge/understanding of client privacy expectations for lenders
