Overview


With national offices in Louisville, Kentucky, the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) focuses on the national and international mission work of the church. It serves and works with congregations, presbyteries, and synods as the central provider of resources that enable individuals, congregations, and governing bodies to carry forth the mission of Jesus Christ in the world. The work at the Presbyterian Center is carried out by approximately 275 staff members who provide overall support for the mission of the church.

Position Purpose:
Provide administrative and programmatic structure, vision, and oversight in the Office of Vital Congregations. This position provides strategic oversight and mission coordination by developing, implementing, and casting the vision for the ministry of the Office of Vital Congregations. This position supports, trains, and supervises the Mission Specialist and Associate(s) of Vital Congregations. Furthermore, this position is responsible for developing the theory and resources for the ministry work. 

Job Skills / Requirements

  1. Strategy: Coordinate and manage the overall vision, strategy, and program of the Office of Vital Congregations.
  2. Manage: Manage interpretation and administration of the vision and policies related to the Office Vital Congregations.
  3. Finance: In cooperation with the Coordinator of Mission Effectiveness and Budget, manage, oversee, and have responsibility for the budget related to ministry work. Write grants and ensure funding for sustainability of the ministry work and staffing. 
  4. Staff: Coordinate, train, support, and provide supervision and leadership oversight to the Mission Specialist and Associate for Vital Congregations. Envision structure of future staff.
  5. Mid-Council Support: Strategize and implement relational oversite to presbyteries, synods, and churches. 
  6. Programs:  Create and offer oversite to the Vital Congregations Initiative, envision implementation of the national scope of the Initiative. Create and support training opportunities. Envision and create future opportunities and support after the 2-Year Initiative.
  7. Collaboration: Cultivate and continue partnerships in projects, programs, events and travel across TFE ministry areas and across denominational agencies. Envision and create intentional collaborations and partnerships with seminaries, colleges, conference centers. 
  8. Communication:  Envision and develop promotional and training materials in digital format. Create and maintain avenues of communication for synods, presbyteries, and churches. Manage all reports and information for the Board, and all Actions of the PMA Board related to ministry work.
  9. Travel: In collaboration with the Associate Director of TFE, other Coordinators and the Mission Specialist and Associate for Vital Congregations, travel to mid-councils to share vision and implement the VC Initiative; major conferences; to represent the Office of Vital Congregations for major conference events.

Education:

Masters of Divinity or advanced degree required.

Experience:

8-10 years of experience with transforming congregations and relational evangelism preferred.
